Mission Estate VS Pinot Noir, 2016
Mission's Estate has chosen their very best grapes grown in the Awatere Valley for their Vineyard Selection Pinot Noir. They were selected from a portion of the vineyard that was carefully managed with fruit thinning to encourage optimal ripeness and flavour development.
It shows good concentration of bright red cherry, forest floor and wild berry aromas, more fruit on the palate with a soft, rich mouthfeel. The wine has a fine structure and really fantastic fruit intensity, supple mouthfeel and a great finish. Drinking really well now but with potential to age well over the next 5-10 years.
"Garnet-red colour with some depth, lighter on the rime with some bricking. The nose is soft and ethereally full with a broad array of aromatic red berry fruits along with restrained notes of savoury dried herbs, elements of earth and red floral nuances." Raymond Chan
Barolo, Sacco, 2013
Often considered one of Italy's greatest wines, Barolo is definitely one of the most famous and a must try for it's classic tar and roses aromas. This Barolo from the Rocca estate is a classic, dry and austere, autumnal Nebbiolo from this famous Piemonte region. It will delight with its intense bouquet of mature red fruit and tobacco and the ethereal "Tar and Roses" of classic mature Barolo. It is at the lighter end of the Barolo spectrum and fully mature, so expect a more gamey style well suited to roast pheasant, aged beef and other fine meat courses.Learn More£22.50
Onomastica Tinto, Rioja Reserva, Bodegas Carlos Serres, 2011
A very limited edition, harmonious Reserva, with a deep, elegant bouquet.
Aromas of black fruit, vanilla and dark chocolate with hints of spices and mineral notes. Magnificent structure in the mouth; powerful, vigorous, tasty and wide. Very complex powerful finish from this famous estate in Haro. Suits food matches like roast kid and suckling pig, braised meats and aged cheeses, and a surprisingly good match for dark chocolate too.
Graciously balanced and open, this Rioja is showing maturity in a delicate gossamer style. It will be a great charmer with its energy, velvet tannins and attenuated fruit. Hedonistic character. Mission Estate Huchet Syrah, Gimblett Gravels, 2013
The Mission Estate story begins with a group of French Missionaries who sailed to New Zealand with little more than their faith and a few vines. The first record of a commercial sale dates back to 1870 when a parcel of mostly dry reds was sold. The Cellar Master at this time was Brother Cyprian Huchet, the son of a French vigneron from the Loire. Having grown up amongst the vineyards and wine cellars in France, Cyprian Huchet’s wine knowledge became extremely sophisticated and he bought this wealth of knowledge to Mission Estate.
Mission Huchet Syrah is a tribute to Cyprian Huchet and Mission’s 160 year heritage. Crafted with devotion, combining leading edge technologies and Old World techniques, Huchet is a bold wine of heart & depth with pure dark berry aromas along with some spice components. The palate is full-bodied with fine soft tannins and an array of complex aromas. These fine tannins provide an amazing texture that is velvety and mouth filling and which frame a depth of rich complex aromas which persist long on the finish. If you can resist opening this wine for 10-20 years, you will be rewarded with a wine that is even more silky and fine.
