Taittinger 'Comtes de Champagne' Blanc de Blancs, 2006
A powerful, refined, expressive and complex Champagne, with notes of citrus fruits, lime blossom and caramelised grapefruit. The long, rich ending reveals sweet licorice aromas.
Produced only in exceptional vintage years and intended as the ultimate expression of the Taittinger style, this wine is composed entirely of Chardonnay grapes grown in the top vineyards of the prestigious Côte des Blancs. Only the first press juice is used. A small proportion (5%) of the blend spends three to four months in new oak barrels, enhancing the intrinsic qualities of the final blend. Prior to disgorgement, the Blanc de Blancs is aged for 10 years on the lees in 13th-century chalk cellars that were once the property of Saint Nicaise abbey.
Of the 280 wines entered into the 2016 Sparkling Drinks Masters the 2006 vintage was awarded 'Master' - the only one to recieve the highest accolade in the whole competition.

Champagne Taittinger's origins date back to 1734 with the founding of the original House by Jacques Fourneaux. The Taittinger link was established in 1931 when Pierre Taittinger acquired the House. He was stationed at the Château de la Marquetterie when serving in the 1st World War and fell in love with the property and its vineyards and eventually purchased the company. Today, the Reims based House is one of the few key Champagne houses to remain owned and actively managed by the family named on the label.
