Maison La Mauny Heritage Rhum Ambre Agricole
Maison La Mauny 1749 Ambré hails from the Caribbean island of Martinique where rum is made from raw cane juice instead of molasses.
Aged for eighteen months in oak barrels and a few extra months in Port casks this rich rum is straw yellow with light glints of gold. The aroma is dominated by warm sugar, spices and fine woody notes. It has a supple and delicately mellow taste, with woody nuances and notes of warm sugar and caramel. The pleasant, fruity finish is characterised by delightful woody notes.

Maison La Mauny
Ferdinand Poulain, Count de Mauny, a nobleman from Brittany and Councilor of the Court of Appeal of the King of France, arrived in Martinique. He married the daughter of a planter who owned a sugar estate located in Rivière Pilote, on the southern part of the island of Martinique. This property became the La Mauny domain. In addition to sugar production, they also produced Tafia, a precursor of rum.
When the sugar economy began to show signs of weakness, the plantation decided to focus part of its production on the La Mauny distillery, which went on to develop production of agricultural rum made of pure, fresh sugarcane juice grown on the estate.
The domain, spread over some 420 acres of very rugged terrain, became the property of the brothers Theodore and Georges Bellonie. Georges ran the distillery while his brother Theodore was in charge of trade, specializing in rum.
Today La Mauny rum has obtained the protected designation of origin, "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée"(AOC) in 1996. La Mauny has continued to grow for the last twenty years, and its expertise is recognized by consumers as well as by juries of French and foreign experts, who have awarded it a number of prizes for its white and dark rums.
