  • Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, Lignier Morey-Saint-Denis

Georges Lignier's nephew Benoît Stehly has been involved in the domaine since 2002 and took over sole responsibility in 2008, since which time the wines have become finer and finer. He is very much a vineyard man and 'he has reassuringly purple hands all year round'. He works hard at allowing each vineyard to express itself. Village wines are matured in old oak while premiers crus see 30% new oak and grands crus generally about 50%.

The Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is characterised by elegance, roundness, while maintaining a great tannic power. The aromas often evoke the raspberry of their youth and then with ageing the aromas of garrigue and leather take over.

  • Domaine George Lignier Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru

  • Chateau de Ferrand Saint Emilion Grand Cru '06 Magnum

The wines from the Saint-Emilion area in Bordeaux are appreciated by lovers worldwide for their finesse and elegance. On the calcareous clay soils of this domain the Merlot grape dominates, which is supplemented by a small proportion of Cabernet Franc grapes in Cuvée. The Lambert family attaches great importance to a careful, traditional ageing in oak barrels (about 18-24 months), so their wines never show an intrusive or superficial "wood tone".

The 2006 vintage presents itself full-bodied and rich, a supple red wine with a rich bouquet of blackcurrant, ripe strawberries backed by fine, spicy aromas. The initial taste on the palate offers a firm but supple backbone, predominated by fruitiness, with tight, flavoursome tannins. The finish benefits from splendid, long-lasting aromas. An interesting fact about this Grand Cru wine, it is from the estate of the late Baron Bich - of Bic pens fame. Also, Chateau Ferrand is only sold when ready for drinking yet, while it is drinking well now it could mature further.

  • Mission Estate Huchet Syrah, Gimblett Gravels

The Mission Estate story begins with a group of French Missionaries who sailed to New Zealand with little more than their faith and a few vines. The first record of a commercial sale dates back to 1870 when a parcel of mostly dry reds was sold. The Cellar Master at this time was Brother Cyprian Huchet, the son of a French vigneron from the Loire. Having grown up amongst the vineyards and wine cellars in France, Cyprian Huchet’s wine knowledge became extremely sophisticated and he bought this wealth of knowledge to Mission Estate.

Mission Huchet Syrah is a tribute to Cyprian Huchet and Mission’s 160 year heritage. Crafted with devotion, combining leading edge technologies and Old World techniques, Huchet is a bold wine of heart & depth with pure dark berry aromas along with some spice components. The palate is full-bodied with fine soft tannins and an array of complex aromas. These fine tannins provide an amazing texture that is velvety and mouth filling and which frame a depth of rich complex aromas which persist long on the finish. If you can resist opening this wine for 10-20 years, you will be rewarded with a wine that is even more silky and fine.

Presented in a bespoke Huchet box and wrapped in tissue paper.

  • Domaine Courbis Cornas La Sabarotte

Inky purple black colour. Nice smoky meatiness to the nose, which is rich and spicy. The palate is rich and full, displaying chunky, spicy, tannic fruit. Quite a big wine.

"Takes a ripe, modern approach at first, with roasted fig, cruched plum and raspberry notes leading the way, but also lots of roasted earth, and tobacco notes tugging from underneath to keep this honest. A piercing chalky streak emerges on the finish, providing added length and range. Very impressive." Wine Spectator

  • Margaux, Chateau Desmirail 3ieme Cru Classe

Internationally renowned for its Grand Cru production, the Margaux appellation on the left bank in Bordeaux, offers wines that are characterised by finesse and elegance. The outstanding quality of Margaux wines can be explained by both the unique micro-climate created by its position between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary. In the wine makers own words, Denis Lurton has created a wine that is 'gentle, rounded and fruity'. He explains that this is due to the relatively high proportion of Merlot (40%) in the blend. The remainding 60% is Cabernet Sauvignon which gives the length you can expect from a fine Margaux. Learn More
