South East Australia

South Eastern Australia is a large zone that encompasses the Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania areas. Wines from the South East region can be made from anywhere within these states. This is a massive stretch of land with diverse growing conditions and ranges in quality.

The reds are generally produced from Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre and Cabernet grapes while the whites are made from Chardonnay, Riesling, Vioginer, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. This region also produces plenty of blends and unusual pairings.

    A fantastic example of a much underrated grape variety, usually found on the Italian island of Sardinia. Berton Vineyards planted Vermentino vines in their premium vineyard and produced a great wine.

    An appetising pale lemon colour with aromas of tropical fruits combined with pear and citrus that jump from the glass. These flavours follow through to the palate creating a rich wine with a great depth of flavour and crisp acidity. Pairs well with light seafood dishes such as tempura prawns and, due to it's lightness, is a perfect appetiser.

    Possibly Berton Vineyards most popular wine. Full of spicy, yet soft blackcurrant fruit and still holding it's own at 14% alcohol, the wine is actually very approachable. The winemakers source the darkest and most flavoursome Shiraz grapes from premium areas across South Eastern Australia and make a wine that balances fruit and alcohol, but also looks great and is a reasonable price.

    Strong, purple black and intense (hence the name) yet surprisingly soft and easy drinking for such a high alcohol wine – just how Aussie Shiraz should be!
