Biere Silly Saison 75cl
The Saison (farmhouse ale) is a humble regional beer style that was brewed in the quiet winter months and satisfied the thirsts of farmers and fieldworkers out in the fields in the busy summer. 30 years ago, this style was unknown and only appreciated by older drinkers from the area where it was brewed. Now it’s really popular among beer aficionados and the Saison de Silly is considered one of the best.
It stands out from the classic ‘saisons’ through its amber colour, a fruity aroma, and zesty touches, with a hint of caramel compounding its light bitterness. It’s has a unique, light taste but at the same time subtle touches of sweets and fruit. A zesty, refreshing beer that calls out for another one.
Brasserie de Silly
One of the benefits of being a farm worker in Belgium was that you could drink beer on the job, although this was mainly because there was no clean drinking water. Brasserie de Silly is the product of this and thus came about so the farm could brew seasonal beers for their field workers.
Now six generations later, and still family owned, Brasserie de Silly has expanded into all traditional Belgian beer styles with a few surprises thrown in. Look out for the grapefruit enhanced Pink Killer and Burgundy barrel-aged Scotch.
