Domaine Pierre Gaillard Cote Rotie, 2021
Very pure blackberry, mineral nose with great purity and definition. The palate is equally pure with black peppery fruits, meaty and roasted herbs. More of an elegant Cote-Rotie than an explosive one.
Domaine Gaillard
Pierre Gaillard studied Viticulture and Enology in Beaune, and obtained a Graduate Diploma in Winemaking from Montpellier before becoming a vineyard manager for a highly-regarded estate in Côte-Rôtie.
In 1981, he bought his first parcel of land, Clos de Cuminailles in Malleval. He now manages 77 hectares around Malleval, Cottebrune and Madeloc and uses modern techniques to ensure his wines express clear and precise fruity aromas, with a profound colour and refined tannins.
His vineyards in the northern part of the Rhone Valley, ranging from Cote-Rotie down through to Cornas in the South are planted on steep slopes with the vines are located on the last foothills of the Massif Central.

Rhone
The mighty Rhone River that cuts through the French countryside and lends it name to this auspicious wine region is the uniting force of the great tracts of farmland and vineyards either side of it. Some of the oldest vineyards in France decorate the valley, and the Rhone wine region produces quality wines that can compete with some of the finest Bordeaux and Burgundy wines on the market. It was not always this way however, and as the world catches up to the true richness available in Rhone wines, there are some excellent value wines to be found.
