Castello di Verrazzano, Rosso Mini Tuscan IGT, 2021
In the 1970's some Italian wine makers believed that the legal rules governing the production of Chianti were too restrictive, so they coined the term 'Super Tuscan'. This distinguished their wines from the inexpensive, low-quality wines that were associated with the term vino da tavola, that they were forced to put on the label. Now it is used to describe some of the most innovative and superlative red wines from the Tuscany region, in which Castello di Verrazzano is located. The Rosso Toscana is labelled 'minituscan' so you can expect some of the qualities of a super tuscan without the hefty price tag.
Flowers and red fruits dominate the nose while it's pleasantly full and rounded in the mouth. Well suited to contemporary "fusion" cuisine, white meats, fresh cheese and vegetable dishes. Best served 15-17°C. Certified Organic.

Castello di Verrazzano has a long, enduring history. Located in the heart of Tuscany the property housed many aristocratic families over the years with a winemaking history dating back to 1150.
Found in the Chianti Classico area, between the Italian cities of Florence and Siena, Castello di Verrazzano holds a beautiful position that was firstly an Etruscan settlement and later, Roman. In the 7th Century the castle became the property of the most famous resident, Giovanni da Verrazzano, an explorer who discovered the bay of New York and drew up the first map of the East coast of the U.S.
Now owned by the Cappellini family, the great tradition of winemaking continues. From 1958, when they took over the castle, they set about restoring the villa, surrounding agriculture and vineyards using traditional methods, respecting the historical and architectonic features.
There are 105 acres of vines thriving in Verrazzano's limestone-rich soil, which is reputedly responsible for the singular blend of muscularity and finesse evident in the Verrazzano wines.

Tuscany
Perhaps the most recognised region of Italy when it comes to wine, Tuscany is home to some of the world’s oldest wineries and boasts a barnstorming collection of some of the most-loved wines on the planet. It is suggested that the Sangiovese grape – the signature grape of the Tuscany wine region – used to grow in the wild here as far back as the 4th century B.C., but the undulating green hills and Mediterranean climate make this area of Italy ripe for growing many kinds of grapes, including international varieties. Perhaps best known for the big bold reds of Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and Chianti made from Sangiovese along with the Super Tuscan blends, Tuscany wine offers rich flavours and high quality in almost all of the wines from the region.
