Frank Shiraz Mourvedre Viognier, Cape Wine Company, 2020
So let's be FRANK... this wine is 100% fermented grapes!
Tasting Notes
A velvety smooth Rhone Blend with good depth of colour. Well-rounded with a concentration of blackcurrant, cherry and peppercorn. A full-bodied with grippy tannins and a hint of blueberry on the palate.
The Vineyard
Grapes were sourced from vineyards in the COstal Region on mostly clay-loam soils. The vineyards are meticulously farmed and managed.
Winemaking
The Shiraz and Mourvedre Grapes were harvested fully ripe, in the early morning. The Viognier grapes were harvested ripe, once the skin changed to a slight yellow colour on the shoulder of the bunch whereafter it was a whole bunch pressed. After crushing the must was cold-soak for a week before the onset of fermentation. Selected Rhone yeast strains were used. The wine spent 12 months in barrels before being blended.
Food Pairings
Ribeye steak with spicy sauces, Oxtail with black peppercorn.
