Pommard Clos Marey-Monge, Grands Esprits, 2018
Tasting
Known for giving body and structure to our Clos Marey-Monge Monopole, our Grands Esprits cuvée is a Pommard of great quality, appreciable as such. With its ruby, violet-tinted color and its expressive nose marked by aromas of ripe black fruit, fresh rose and sweet spices, it stands out as a generous and robust wine. A long and mineral finish brings a touch of elegance to this complex vintage.
Terrior
Grands Esprits 4.81 hectares of large, round, rocky, calcium-rich soils planted between 1980 and 1990 produce a straight Pinot Noir with firm tannins and the potential for long aging. Occupying almost one-quarter of our vineyard’s overall area, the 220 rows of the Grands Esprits plot is the most calcareous area of the Clos Marey-Monge.
Wine Making
Hand-harvested grapes, hand-sorted on a vibrating table. 100% de-stemmed, placed into stainless steel fermentation vats by gravity flow. Weeks-long maceration, minimal pumping-over and punching-down. Pressing in a pneumatic press. Placed in French oak barrels for aging on fine lees. Light filtration.
