Chateau Gigognan, Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge Clos du Roi, 2017
Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre plunge their roots into the depths of the mother rock, which contributes to giving exceptional qualities to this wine. Manual harvests, very small yields and ageing for 18 months in large wooden vats called "foudres" for a superb result.
This wine has a beautiful cherry red colour. Its expressive and charming nose of red berries and its ample and progressive, but never heavy, sensation on the palate make it an indulgent, subtle and sensual wine. The notes obtained from the ageing process complete the balance for an end result that is airy and full of light.
Situated on the low and medium-height terraces of Chateauneuf du Pape. Clay-limestone soil covered with rounded pebbles. The climate is Mediterranean with two dry seasons (one in winter and a longer one in summer) and two rainy seasons (heavy some years in autumn and lighter in spring). Finally, the presence of the Mistral wind throughout the year is a real advantage for the healthy growth of the vines.
A classy wine that pairs well with red meats, game, and flavourful cheeses.
Chateau Gigognan
Chateau Gigognan is a long-established wine estate and part of the historical heritage of Provence. It produces red, white and rosé wines in the appellations of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Signargues, Cotes-du-Rhone Villages, and Cotes-du-Rhone.
Situated at the heart of the Rhone Valley, close to the famous papal city of Avignon, Chateau Gigognan encompasses 110 hectares of vines in a landscape of rolling hills, parasol pines, and olive trees. Born of a winegrowing tradition dating back to Roman times, the estate is both a vineyard fashioned by a terroir of rounded pebbles and a haven of tranquillity.
The wines are made, aged and bottled on the Estate, come in the three colours, and represent four prestigious appellations – Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Signargues, Cotes-du-Rhone Villages and Cotes-du-Rhone. All the wines have different characters according to the vintages and are a respectful expression of their terroir while also reflecting the organic principles applied throughout the vineyard.
